So this would be one of my favorite products that doesn’t fall into the budget-conscious category, but I feel the cost is more than justified. I have sensitive, combination skin. The wrong product can cause redness, dryness and breakouts, so I’m usually pretty careful and conscious about what I put on my face.
Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic Acid 10% Moisturizer
I can’t remember exactly when I started using this as my go-to moisturizer but it’s definitely been a while (more than 5 years at least). I do remember at the time I came across it, I was breaking out a lot, and looking for something to help control the breakouts and stop my skin from freaking out. I ordered it online through Sephora (at the time it was not available in stores in Canada) and within a few days of using it, I saw a noticeable difference in my skin. My breakouts were clearing up, new ones weren’t appearing and my skin was softer and smoother. Ever since then, I’ve been hooked.
If you read the product description on Sephora’s website , it’s claims are more centered around erasing the signs of aging. It doesn’t mention anything about it helping with acne, but there are actually plenty of reviews done by people that use it for just that purpose. If you’re dealing with acne and breakouts, I’d definitely recommend giving it a try! Now I wouldn’t say it stops me from breaking out completely. I still break out from time to time, but it’s a lot less than I used to prior to using this AND, I find any break outs heal and clear up faster when using it.
The one thing you have to be careful with is sun exposure while using this product. There is no sunscreen in it and because it contains AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids), there’s a heightened chance that you’ll burn if out in the sun, so just make sure you wear sunscreen on top to avoid that. Also, it does sting a little when you first start using it and even though I have sensitive skin, I never experienced any reactions other than that. I always just viewed that as just the glycolic acid doing it’s thing!
So up until a few months ago I had been using this as my everyday moisturizer. Then I started having problems with getting my foundation to blend properly (I had recently switched foundations). It does have a thick and creamy consistency, which I like because you don’t have to use alot of it so it last a long time! However, I do find that on my skin at least, it does take a while to absorb. So i decided to switch it up a bit and use this as my nighttime moisturizer instead and that has been working much better for me.
The ONLY thing I don’t like about this product (and some of Peter Thomas Roth’s products in general) is that there are parabens in it. I only know two things about parabens: 1) they are a type of preservative and, 2) they’re not supposed to be good for you. I’ve personally decided that I love this product enough that it’s worth the risk. In summary:
PROS
- Helped heal current acne, prevent new acne
- Leaves skin feeling soft, smooth and moisturized
- A little goes along way so it lasts a long time!
CONS
- Thick consistency – takes a while to absorb into my skin
- A little pricey
- Contains parabens
COST: $55.00 CAD
Happy moisturizing – cheers! Maggie ❤
