This & That – September 6

Copy of this &

What’s going on with me:

It’s the first This & That Friday of September!  I love Fall but I just feel like it’s coming too fast this year.  Maybe because we had kind of crappy Summer weather-wise.  Technically it’s not officially Fall until September 22 but you wouldn’t know it here in Calgary – the temperature here yesterday was in the single digits!  Plus the leaves are already changing and falling.  It’s only the first week in September!  STOP!

My second course in Graphic Design begins tomorrow!  The next few months are going to be really busy for me – I’ve got classes almost every weekend and several nights during the week.  I’d say that I’m going to need to scale my blogging back but let’s be honest, have I ever been able to keep a consistent blog schedule?  #masterofprocrastination This might actually force me to keep a regular schedule…but I won’t jinx myself.  I’m thinking twice a week – haven’t quite figured out which two days that’ll be yet.

Exciting news – I’m going to be announcing my new blog name next week!  I think I’ve got a name that will represent my blog well – although it’s going to be hard to say goodbye to Classic Maggie.  Almost makes me sad to think about it…but I know it’s the right thing to do.  It’s silly how attached we can get to things, isn’t it?  PS – once my new blog name launches my giveaway will commence shortly thereafter! 🙂

Have you seen/heard?

I really want to try this mermaid hair tutorial but it seems like so much work.  So pretty though, right?

Why is crushed velvet trying to make a comeback?  Someone needs to put a stop to this right now.  That needs to stay in the 90’s where it belongs.

I cannot believe this woman is 98 years old!  I love her advice…and I need to start doing yoga.

Recent purchases…

I did visit Ulta on my trip and I’m not going to lie, it was a pretty amazing place.  I didn’t get everything I intended for a few reasons – they didn’t have what I wanted in stock, I changed my mind and/or I checked my VISA about halfway through my trip and almost fainted when I saw the exchange rate I was being charged for everything.  Seriously, it physically hurt.  Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t leave there empty handed but I scaled it back a bit.  Post on what I picked up coming soon…

Okay, I know this is a weird one, but…how is it fair that not only do we not have Ulta in Canada, we also do not have Cheez-It’s?  The Tabasco-flavoured ones are my favourite so anytime I go to the States I always have to get a box of them if I can find them.  We have Cheese Nips here in Canada, but they don’t even come close to comparing, nor do they come in all the fab flavours of Cheez-Its.  Plus Cheez-Its is fun to say.  😛

Do you like rootbeer?  Do you like alcohol?  If you answered yes to both, then I’d like to introduce you to Not Your Father’s Root Beer, if you’re not already acquainted.  Omg these are soooooooo delicious!  These can be a little dangerous because you can’t taste the alcohol in them!  If you like sweet drinks, I totally recommend giving them a try.

This top was the only clothing purchase I made on our trip and it was a good one – it’s so comfy!  Plus I can never resist ombre anything!

Currently coveting…

I had a lemon bar from Model Bakery in Napa and I’ve never tasted a lemon bar like it – it was literally out of this world (potentially the most delicious thing I ate the entire trip).  Fall and winter = cooking and baking for me so I’d love to give some of their recipes from their cookbook a try at home.

OMG Kate Spade has a Minnie Mouse collection!  Just look at this adorable clutch!  And card case!

So I signed up for Ebates earlier this year…and I just received a cheque for $150 in the mail!  Most of that is from booking a trip via Expedia a few months ago but if you shop online for anything, you NEED to sign up.  I was skeptical at first, but there’s literally nothing shady about it, it’s basically just free money!  Do it!

I recently picked up a pair of leggings at Express – and wow am I impressed!  They fit so well and are so comfy!

Favourite Youtube video of the week….

I have to give credit where credit is due – I saw this feature on Curly.Spring.Blossom’s blog (ps – follow her!) and I thought it was a great idea, so I’m stealing it.  I’m going to award my first one to Coffee Break with Dani’s Juvia’s Place Palette Review and Swatch video – mainly because I’m in love with the look she created!  Plus that palette looks amazing!  Oh and Dani is one of my favourite You-tubers! 🙂

Need to catch up on my posts?  Here’s what I’ve been up to the last few weeks:

Review: IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream

Yup, that’s one measley post…

Have a fantastic weekend!

  1. I love Ebates but I forget to use it more often than not, oops! I also agree that it’s totally unfair that the US gets Ulta and way better alcohol and food options at the grocery store. But hey, they also have Trump so..

  2. I want Fall weather right now! It’s still so hot here… we’ve had heat warning here for the last 3 days. (feels like 40C) 😦
So awesome you’re doing a graphic design course!
I can’t wait to see what your new blog name will be – super exciting!!!
LOL, I never knew that about Cheez-Its. Now I want some. I didn’t want them before I knew that fact. But now I do. 😛
I can’t wait to see what you got from Ulta! But ouch on the exchange rate.
$150 back on ebates – wow! That’s amazing. I only get $10 here and there… not a big lump sum like that. 😮 Go you!

    1. We went from Summer in March and April, to Spring from May to August, straight to like early Winter in September. They threatened snow here on Sunday! Thankfully it didn’t happen. I have to agree though, 40 degrees is ridiculous and uncomfortable. Typical early Fall weather is probably my favourite season – it cools down in the evening but it’s still nice and warm during the day.
I was super excited to see my big fat cheque from ebates – totally pays to book travel with them if and when you can! I tried to book as many hotels as I could with them for our road trip but there weren’t too many. It’s addicting!

  3. I am so ready for fall fashion makeup, but not at all ready for fall weather! Next week is supposed to be really nice out, though 🙂
We don’t have Cheez-Its?? I always thought we did! Maybe I’m getting them confused with Cheese Nips. Cheese-flavoured snacks are so addictive though, they’re dangerous!
I just signed up for Ebates a month or two ago – don’t do much online shopping but it kinda makes me want to spend more money just so I can get a very small portion of it back, lol! That’s crazy you got $150 cash back!
Can’t wait to see your haul 😀

    1. It has been really nice this week – it almost feels like summer again, aside from the chilly mornings! And I’m with you I’m so not ready for fall weather, mainly because we seem to get like a week of Fall and then fast forward to winter. And wearing cozy sweaters is nice and all, for about a month. Then it snows and melts and gets mucky and messy outside and I get hot in the mall with my multiple layers …it gets old really fast in my opinion!
Sadly, no Cheez Its. I even checked their website to confirm…apparently you can send a request on their website that will be sent to retailers notifying them that there is a Cheez-It desire in their area, but I don’t even know if that would work outside of the US. It’s really sad. 😦
I think ebates is going to force me to shop online more – for certain things anyway! I just can’t pass up free money! 🙂

      1. I know exactly what you mean about the weather here! It would be nice if we just had two straight months of fall, instead of fall mixed in with winter, lol. Going shopping in the winter is the worst…it’s a pain taking off all the layers and the boots to try on clothes. Have been loving the weather this week – wish our fall weather was always like this!
Cheez Its will just have to be the thing you buy to bring back every time you go to the States! Every time I go, I bring back the Flaming Hot Cheetos, which we don’t have here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/17/flamin-hot-cheetos-banned-california-new-mexico_n_1974131.html
Except these are not so good for you and some schools in the US have banned them, so maybe it’s a good thing I don’t have easy access to them…

  4. That mermaid hair does look amazing- but you’re right, too much work! Plus I think the way I use my clampless curling iron, my hair turns out more wavy looking than curly anyway- so i’ll just stick with what I know!
Ewww say NO to velvet- I just CANNOT!
The Tabasco flavored Cheez-It’s are my favorite of the whole bunch! I buy them every now and then when I go to the store.
The Not Your Father’s Root Beer sounds delish!!
I love E-Bates! I finally registered and have been using it for a few months now- it’s awesome being able to get some cash back for your purchases. I just have to remember to use it every time- that’s the problem!

    1. Okay I was bored over the weekend and I tried the mermaid hair over the weekend…it didn’t look so great AND it was a ton of work. Definitely will require some practice and patience. I can’t get a handle on clampless curling irons, I always end up burning my hand!

OMG I saw a picture of Kim Kardashian wearing a velvet dress today – I mean she’s always wearing something weird but still – NOOOOO!

I’m so impressed with ebates but I’m forgetful to use it too, although now that I got that big fat cheque in the mail, I’ll be more inclined to remember! 🙂

  6. Oh yes, it is definitely so cold in Calgary! I went to the zoo when I was in Calgary during my road trip and I froze. And that’s saying something coming from Northwestern Ontario, lol! The Banff/Jasper area weren’t any warmer, I froze in my tent! lol But, Alberta is beautiful so the cold didn’t win. I was super surprised to see the weather was warmer in Thunder Bay while I was gone though.

I can’t wait to see your Ulta haul! I had to walk past it when I stopped in the Duluth, MN mall on my way home from my trip, I feared the dreaded credit card bill after two weeks away (and 5 of those days being in the states with the dreaded exchange rate). Your instagram photos of your trip look amazing, can’t wait to hear more about it!!

    1. Thankfully it’s warmed up a lot this week – we hit 23 degrees today! Sorry the weather was crap when you were here – typical Calgary!

Yup I’m on a budget now after our trip, and I didn’t even buy much, except at Ulta. The exchange rate just makes me want to cry, it’s so brutal. I would have spent a lot more if it weren’t for that. 😦
