Clothing & Accessories Haul!

Clothing & Accessories Haul

As mentioned in my Makeup Haul, I was in Vegas a few weeks ago and I did some shopping (as always).  Anyone who knows me, knows I absolutely love shopping…for almost anything, but particularly makeup and clothing/accessories.  So I thought it might be fun to share some of other the deals I scored, even despite the low Canadian dollar!  I’ve also added in a few things I got here in Canada too.

When in Vegas, I always make a point of visiting the North Premium Outlet Malls and the Fashion Show Mall.  The Outlet Malls are about a $20/$25 cab ride (one way) off the Las Vegas strip and offer 175 outlets and stores.  I’ve been to a few outlet malls but this is one of the best I’ve been to, especially given that they’ve recently expanded.  My favourite shops here include Loft Outlet, Kate Spade and Saks on 5th.

The Fashion Show Mall is at the end of the north end of the Las Vegas strip and offers 250 stores and 8 department stores.  It’s a traditional, indoor mall (yay air conditioning!) and some of my favourite stops include Macy’s, Ann Taylor, The Limited and Lucky Brand.

First up, here’s what I got at the Outlets:

Guess Hatti Denim Shorts

Guess Factory Hatti Denim Shorts (Dark Wash) – $22.50 USD: When shopping in the US I tend to stay away from any stores that are also available in Canada, however on this trip I didn’t pack enough shorts and I needed another pair.  After wandering through the entire outlet mall and not finding anything, I stopped in the Guess Factory store as a last resort.  I can’t remember the last time I shopped in here – I think that once I entered my 30’s it just seemed a little too young for me.    However I was pleasantly surprised with these shorts.  They fit so well, are the perfect length and are super comfy!  I actually visited my local store here afterwards and picked up a pair in Black (and actualy paid less in Canadian than I did in US dollars – damn it!)

Guess Elin Twill Shorts

Guess Factory Elin Twill Shorts (Dry Moss) – $22.49 USD: I didn’t expect to find one pair of shorts, never mind two here so that was a bonus.  These have a little more length on them when compared to the denim ones above and I like the stretchy fabric.  They have stretched out a bit so I could have easily gone down a size.  I wanted to pick up another pair but my local store only had the white left which were a bit too see-through for my liking.

Loft Outlet Tank Tops

Loft Outlet Tanks (not available online) – $8.10 USD each:  Not much to say here – basic tanks in basic colours but staples in my wardrobe.  I always pick up at least a couple tanks or tees at the Loft Outlet because they’re cheap but pretty good quality.

Loft Outlet Floral Print Dress

Loft Outlet Floral Print Dress (not available online) – $29.99 USD: I literally needed another dress like I needed a hole in the head but this was such a flattering cut I couldn’t pass it up.  Plus the floral print was so pretty and feminine.

Kate Spade Pave Bow Ring

Kate Spade Pave Bow Ring (not available online) – $13.80 USD: I’ve been wanting a bow ring for the longest time and I went into the store hoping to find exactly this.  This came in gold and silver too but I ultimately decided on the rose gold.  This is my favourite purchase!

And from the Fashion Show Mall:

Ann Taylor Relaxed Linen V-Neck Top

Ann Taylor Relaxed Linen V-Neck Top (Navy Blue) – $10 USD: I rarely buy loose fitting tops like this – I always feel like they make me look bigger.  And if I had been shopping online, I wouldn’t have even looked twice at this given some of the styling on the models.  But I tried this on and it was so comfortable I couldn’t pass it up.  I love the look of linen (one of my fave fabrics for t-shirts) and this looks great with jeans or leggings, but will likely be worn more around the house than anything.

Ann Taylor Modern Skinny Ankle Jeans

Ann Taylor Modern Skinny Ankle Jeans (Quiet Grey) – $20 USD:  I have legs that are too short for regular length pants yet too long for petites so I really struggle finding jeans and pants that fit.  And I hate taking things to the tailor!  So I’m praying that skinny ankle jeans never go out of style.  These are the perfect length, fit well and I couldn’t pass up the “Quiet Grey” colour.

Miken Draped Tank Coverup

Miken Draped Tank Coverup – $12.87 USD:  I never shy away from colour, especially anything that’s swimwear related! This is a very vibrant neon pink – the colour isn’t coming across in the photo as much as it does it person.  The material is pretty thin but it’s also really soft and it looks super cute on!  Even if this only lasts me a few wears I can’t really complain given the price.

Chinese Laundry Gweneth Metallic Flat Sandal

Chinese Laundry Gweneth Metallic Flat Sandal (Gold) – $39.99 USD: These were a last minute purchase – we were going out for the night and my feet just couldn’t take another night in the heels I had brought with me.  I wanted flats but they needed to have sparkle or some kind of embellishment to fancy them up a bit.  These were cute and comfortable and did the job – not sure I would pay full price for them though.

And a few things I picked up here at home:

Lucky Brand Tie Dye Twist Strap Dress

Lucky Brand Tie Dye Twist Strap Dress (not available online) – $50.09 CAD: I actually purchased this dress a few months ago but I’ve been wearing it non-stop every since.  This is my go-to style for dresses in the summer – I love the soft, stretchy cotton and the drawstring waist.  It’s super flattering and comfortable.  While this isn’t available online, I saw it in-store at the outlet in Las Vegas, as well as in my local Lucky Brand Outlet.  Pick it up while it’s still around!

Sam Edelman EspadrillesSam Edelman Espadrilles – $52.50 CAD: I can’t decide if I should keep these or not – I really wanted them in black but they were sold out.  I like the pattern but when it comes to everyday shoes I usually prefer solids as they’re easier to match with outfits.  Plus they’re slightly wide for my feet.  Still deciding!

Are you a shopaholic like me?  Where are your favourite places to shop?

What I’m Wearing: Spring 2016

Spring 2016 Fashion

I’ll admit it – I’m no fashionista.  I’m not one to be sporting the newest fashion trends, in fact by the time I’ve warmed up to what could be considered a trend, it’s usually no longer in style.  I love things that are comfortable and casual and I tend to stick to tried and true basics like jeans and t-shirts.  But I also like prints and colour so I’m not totally boring. 😉

I thought it might be fun to go through some of the more popular trends for the season and share with you what I will and will not be embracing.  And then show you what I actually have been wearing (and loving!).

Trends for Spring

Culottes: Okay, I have to be honest – I’ve NEVER liked these and I don’t think I EVER will.  I don’t find them the least bit flattering. Kudos to those who can pull them off but they’re definitely not for me.

Bodysuits: Been here, done this and not re-visiting.  If only for the avoidance of unnecessary wedgies.

Cold Shoulder Shirts: Again, these were in style when I was in Junior High.  I didn’t have one back then and I’m undecided if it’s something that should be repeated. I will admit that this one is kinda cute.

Denim:  This I can get behind.  I’ve seen lots of chambray dresses and rompers. I keep reading that skinnies are no longer in style but I won’t be ditching them anytime soon.

Lace-up Flats: I think these are adorable but I’m not sure they’re for me.  I’m concerned about the comfort factor – I feel like the laces might cut into my skin. These look like they could potentially be comfortable.

What I’ve Been Wearing

Spring has been unseasonably warm here but lately it’s been alternating between a week of super warm weather (i.e. mid-to high 20’s Celcius) and a week of windy, chilly weather (highs below 10 degrees Celcius).  As a result I’ve had to keep some warmer/thicker clothing on hand.

one: One of my favourite tops lately has been this Melange sweater from Joe Fresh; this works so well with leggings as its a bit longer in the back and it’s just loose and comfortable.

two: I own one of these linen tees in a bright coral shade from Gap and I want more.  They’re nice and light for warmer days but be warned they are thin and a little see-through.

three: I’ve had my fitted denim jacket (similar) for years and it’s still going strong.  I throw mine over dresses, t-shirts, and tanks and it takes me everywhere.  It’s a wardrobe staple.

four: I spotted these Keds a few weekends ago and they’re on my purchase list.  I need a new pair of lightweight sneakers to pair with shorts and jeans and I love the soft grey colour on these.  Plus they’re super comfy!

five: I’ve done it, I’ve found the most comfortable pants in the world!  They’re jeggings from Joe Fresh and unfortunately I can’t seem to find the exact link on their website, although these look very similar.  They literally feel like sweatpants but look like denim; in-store they had them in navy, olive green, tan and off-white.  Going back to pick up the olive green and off-white pairs stat and if you see them, I’d highly recommend you at least try them on!  Note: They retail for $29.99 CAD.

sixThis tote was included in my 2015 Non-Beauty Favourites and I’m still loving it in 2016.  I can throw multiple things in here and because it’s so light it doesn’t weigh my shoulders down.  Plus the blue and white stripes are classic and go with anything.

seven: I broke out my pink cropped jeans weeks ago and while mine aren’t quite as vibrant as these, I feel like nothing says Spring more than a pair of pink pants!

eight: I picked this ballet dress up in the clearance section of Gap about a month ago and the style is beyond flattering. They’ve brought it back for Summer in pink and blue, both of which are gorgeous.

nine: I always feel weird wearing a black belt in Spring/Summer.  I know that’s weird but I just do.  Which is why I typically swap my black belt out for my brown one (similar).

ten: I like wearing my pink floral scarf (similar) with my denim jacket to add a pop of colour to my outfit.  Just make sure you pick up a lightweight one or you’ll likely sweat to death.

eleven: I can’t live without my white jeans (similar).  I always find they look so fresh, crisp and chic.  For a few hours at least! 😉

twelve: I bought this romper in solid black at the Gap Factory Store and while I don’t expect it to last me more than one season, I could care less because it’s so comfortable and I paid $14 for it.  The only PITA is trying to get it off when using the bathroom (there’s no buttons or zipper on it anywhere).

thirteen: I walked through Europe for 3 weeks straight in a pair of Tom’s Espadrilles and I’ve never been more happy with a pair of shoes.  I find that it can be difficult to find the Espadrille styles in-stores, so I’m ordering these off Toms.ca (bonus – they’re on sale!)

March Loves & Letdowns

March Loves & Letdowns

I’m a little behind on this month’s favourites – but on the bright side I’m actually doing it this month.  I completely forgot to do February favourites!  Oops!

I’m going to jump right in – here’s what I loved this month:

Gap Open Front Cardi: I love cardi’s any time of year, but especially for Spring and Summer.  This one is super lightweight so it’s perfect to throw overtop of a t-shirt or tank in the morning when it’s still a little chilly out.  They offer this sweater in a wide variety of colours; I selected it in Heather Grey colour but I’m tempted to pick up another in Turquoise or Blue.

claassic maggie

Bath & Body Works Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla Hand Soap: I can’t get enough of this hand soap – it smells exactly like my favourite warm drink from Starbucks – their Cinnamon Dolce Hot Chocolate.  Love it!

classic maggie (40)

Tarte Maracuja Oil: This was included in a Tarte set I bought on Black Friday and I was a little hesitant to use it as I haven’t really had much success with using oils on my face.  My skin is super sensitive and I usually break out when I try to use them.  This one is different though!  I’ve been using this off and on throughout the month as a night-time moisturizer and mixed into my foundation in lieu of primer and it works so well!  I totally expected it to leave me greasy and oily by the end of the day when I mixed it into my foundation but it just made my skin look glowy and healthy and my foundation applied like a dream.  Used as a nighttime moisturizer, I couldn’t believe how supple and smooth my skin felt the next day.  I’m about halfway through my little mini bottle of it but I plan on purchasing the full size, or at least another of the same size.

classic maggie (41)

CoverGirl TruBLEND Blush (Light Rose): This might be one of the best drugstore blushes I’ve ever tried.  Be warned this particular shade is quite light so it probably wouldn’t work well for those with darker skin tones.  But for any of my fair-skinned friends, I’d recommend this.  It’s a really soft pink-ish peach and you can build it to your desired intensity.  On top of that the formula is great – it’s silky, soft and buttery.  Highly recommend this!

classic maggie (39)

Frilly Lilly Argentinian Lemon Shea Butter Creme:  I’ve found my new favourite hand cream!  Frilly Lilly is a local mani/pedi/waxing boutique with locations in Alberta & British Columbia, and California.  I’ve been using this cream for probably a month and a half and it has really helped my chronically dry hands.  It’s not at all greasy – it absorbs quickly but moisturizes really well.  I also love that it doesn’t leave white marks on darker clothes if you touch them before it’s absorbed (one of my biggest pet peeves with hand cream!).  I picked up the Argentinian lemon scent and at first I wasn’t sure about it but I’ve grown to really like it – it’s very refreshing.

classic maggie (37)

NYX Butter Gloss (Angel Food Cake / Strawberry Cheesecake): I’ve talked about how much I love the NYX Butter Glosses before and that hasn’t changed.  I gravitate towards lip glosses and these are some of the best I’ve tried.  They’re glossy and pigmented and so easy to wear.  Angel Food Cake is a lovely nude/mauve shade and Strawberry Cheesecake is a warm medium pink.  I really haven’t been wearing any other lip products aside from these this month!

classic maggie (43)

L’Oreal Brow Stylist Definer (Blonde):  I have to admit I’m kind of lazy when it comes to brows – half the time I forget to do them.  However this eyebrow pencil is so good I’ve pretty much done my brows every day this month.  I can’t believe the difference between this and my previously beloved e.l.f eyebrow pencil – they don’t even compare!  Not only is the shade perfect for me, the precise tip makes it so easy to fill and define my brows (hence the name).  I’ve heard others say that this is a dupe for the Anastasia Brow Wiz – not having tried it, I can’t confirm but if that’s true, but I see why everyone was going crazy over them if they are indeed similar.

Letdown:

classic maggie (42)

NYX HD Concealer: I’ve been researching new concealers for a while and I had heard some good things about this one.  Unfortunately this did not work for me.  The reason: it’s ridiculously drying!  It seemed a little dry when I initially applied it but it only got worse as the day went on.  I used this to cover blemishes so I can’t imagine using this as an undereye concealer – it would totally emphasize and enhance any fine lines.  So this was a disappointment and the search for a new concealer continues…

Maggie’s love: Pet Kind Wild Pacific Salmon Treats

Maggie wanted to join in and share her love for the month.  She’s really been enjoying these salmon treats that I found at Homesense for $6.99.  Love that these are a Canadian product and made with wild pacific salmon.  And they stink so of course Maggie just loves them.  This is the second bag we’ve gone through and I haven’t seen these again at Homesense, so I’m going to have to track down a retailer here that sells them.

What were your loves and letdowns for March?

Winners Haul!

Winners Haul

Shopping makes me happy.  Particularly when I can find a good deal.  And I’m always looking for a good deal!  However one of goals this year was to be more mindful of my purchases and only purchase things I really love.  I’ve been pretty successful with this however stepping into Winners really puts me to the test sometimes.  They usually have pretty good deals and then there are the times when you hit the jackpot and I could easily empty my bank account in a matter of minutes.  My last trip there was one of latter, although I did restrain myself!  I picked up a few things and thought I’d share them:

Solitare Swim Coverup

Solitare Swim Coverup – $29.99 CAD: I’ve been looking for a dress-style cover up and this one is pretty much perfect.  The pictures don’t really do it much justice but it’s very flattering on!  The fabric is also super soft and lightweight and I love the embroidery/crochet that’s on the sleeves and along the hemline. Can’t wait to wear this!

Living Proof Full Shampoo

Living Proof Full Shampoo – $16.99 CAD:  I had to blink a few times when I saw a bottle of this in the haircare aisle?  LIVING PROOF?  For $16.99!?I?  They also had a bottle of the Full Thickening Mousse for the same price but I decided against that as I just purchased a couple bottles of my regular mousse.  Now I have tried this shampoo before and I really liked it – but I couldn’t really justify paying $33 for it (although I was considering adding it to my Sephora sale shopping list prior to finding this).  So for $16.99 I couldn’t pass this up!

Bare Minerals Marvellous Moxie Lip Gloss Hypnotist

Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lip Gloss (Hypnotist) – $12.99 CAD:  As mentioned above, sometimes you just hit up Winners on the right day, and this was one of those days.  This Bare Minerals lip gloss was in one of those security boxes that are locked up and you can only see what’s inside, you can’t open it up and test it out (which I appreciate).  I did a quick google search of this and when I saw some of the pictures, I knew I had to have this.  This is described as a “vibrant holographic peach colour that shifts from pale purple to coral-peach with gold pearl.”  The reviews were kind of mixed but I wanted to try it anyway.  I was a little disappointed when I opened it as mine looked nothing like the pictures online.  As you can see it’s still holographic but it’s mostly yellow.  So I’m not sure if I have a wonky formula and that’s why it was there but either way I have worn this overtop of various lip products it definitely adds a neat shine/slight shift to my lips.  Plus the formula is great – it’s not too thin or sticky and glides on nicely.  It has a sweet mint scent and it leaves a tingly sensation behind after application.  Not sure I’d fork over the regular price of $23 for this but for $13 I’m pleased with it.

classic maggie (30)

Acrylic Nail Polish Organizer – $9.99 CAD: I’ve been picking these up over the last few months and now I have 3 of them. These are fantastic for keeping nail polishes organized and the slots are large enough to fit almost any size of polish.  Plus the plastic is sturdy and durable.

classic maggie (31)

classic maggie (32)

Wall Art Set – $4.99 CAD: Winners had a couple versions of these but I loved the colour of these prints and can’t wait to find some white frames to place them in and hang them in my office. And $4.99 for 2 of them is just a steal.

Do you shop at Winners/TJX/Marshalls?  What great finds have you found there lately?  Let me know below!

Have a great week and thanks for stopping by!

Valentine’s Day Essentials

Valentine's Day Gift Guide 2016

So what are everyone’s thoughts on Valentine’s Day?  People seem to have some very strong feelings about it.  Like they hate it because it’s a highly commercialized, Hallmark holiday and technically you should be showing your loved ones how much you care about them, more than once a year.  I can understand that.  And then there’s those that love it and go all out and get the flowers, chocolates, candlelight dinner, teddy bears, etc.  I get that too because it’s kind of fun.

Personally I’m a little indifferent to it.  D and I have been together for a long time and there’s been years where we buy each other expensive gifts and go for an expensive meal and others where we do absolutely nothing.  I tend to like something that’s somewhere in between.  This year I think we’re going to keep it simple and just go for a nice meal on Friday or Saturday, instead of Sunday, so we can avoid the crowds, higher prices and fixed menus.  And we’ll probably skip the gifts this year.

Despite that, I thought I’d put together a collection of my favourite Valentine’s Day things, in case you needed some inspiration for the big Day:

  1. Grower Direct Vibrant Dreams Arrangement:  I love getting flowers any time of year, and I don’t depend on D to buy them for me – I’ll happily buy them for myself!  I love this arrangement – classic V-day colours but a little more understated than a dozen red roses.
  2.  Pier One Pink Champagne Ombre Filled Candle: Could there be a more perfect Valentine’s Day candle?  With notes of grapefruit, citrus and strawberry you really can’t go wrong (not to mention the beautiful ombre jar).  Plus let’s be honest, real champagne is over-rated.
  3. Nova 7 Benjamin Bridge Wine: Wine wouldn’t be my drink of choice…unless it’s this one.  This is my favourite wine ever – it’s sweet, sparkling but not at all dry.  And it’s from Nova Scotia!  #whoknew
  4. Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Lipstick (Firebird): No better day to break out a bright and bold fuchsia or red lip!
  5. Purdy’s Cinnamon Hearts:  Whenever I see these hit the stores, I am instantly reminded of my childhood dog (RIP Twinkle) who ate an entire bowl of these in one sitting.  She was home alone and we had left a bowl on the end table.  We came home and they were gone.  Still makes me giggle to think about it.
  6. Kate Spade ‘One in a Million’ Initial Pendant Necklace: Okay I know I have a bit of a Kate Spade problem but I’ve been eyeing these for years.  I think they’d make a really great gift, especially for V-Day!
  7. Cookies by George Junior Cookie Box: Have you ever had a Cookies by George cookie?  If not, you’re missing out (highly recommend the M&M ones)!  These little boxes make great gifts for anyone and they deliver all throughout Canada and the US!
  8. Remy Olivier Cast Iron Fondue Set: If you’re planning on hanging out at home, may I suggest a fondue party for 2?  We fondued on NYE and it was really fun (and delicious!) and it was nice to do something a little different!
  9. Tokoyo Milk Tainted Love No. 62:  I have a mini bottle of this from a set I bought on Black Friday from Sephora and I think it makes a great V-day fragrance – warm, a little mysterious and a little musky.
  10. PS, I Love You:  I can’t remember how many times I’ve watched this movie, nor read the book.  It’s a tear-jerker, comedy and romance all mixed into one.  If you’re looking for something along those lines to read, I’d recommend this (it’s usually on tv at least once a weekend as well 😉 )
  11. Brooklyn Brew Shop Home Brew Kit: I hate buying D presents, he’s always disappointed in whatever I get him.  He’s definitely not into the sappy gift thing so beer is a safe bet, even if he does have to make it himself.
  12. Ricki’s Heart Intarsia Pullover: I’m a bit of a geek and like to wear holiday-themed things, whether it be jewelry or clothing on holidays.  I like that I could wear this sweater after Valentine’s Day as well.
  13. Purdy’s Peanut Butter Hearts: Valentine’s Day 101: Chocolate.  Add peanut butter and you’re golden.
  14. OPI’s Hello Kitty Collection Nail Polishes (Small + Cute = ❤Charmmy & Sugar):  I picked up a few of these polishes from the Hello Kitty collection a few weeks ago and these two are my favourite and couldn’t be more perfect for Valentine’s Day.  I like using Charmmy & Sugar for an accent nail.

Winter Essentials

Winter Essentials 2016

I know that everyone probably has Spring on their mind and it’s really thinking about Winter, but the reality is (at least where I live!) that Spring is still 2-3 months away.  While that seems a little depressing, the bright side is we made it through January which, in my mind – is the worst month of the year!

Today I have a collection of my Winter Essentials.  These are things that help me get through those cold, snowy (and slushy) winter months and make it a little more bearable.

  1. Emergenc-C: After being sick for over a month with whatever mutated flu virus I had, I’m determined not to get it again.  I always like to have some of these on hand; it’s a powdered mix you add to water that has 1,000 mg of Vitamin C, zinc and electrolytes to boost your immune system.  They come in little individual packets to that are super easy to throw in your purse or gym bag.
  2. Boot Rescue Wipes: Whoever invented these is a genius!  I’ve been using boot wipes for the last two years and they’re a god-send; there’s nothing worse than having salt stains and mud splatters all over your boots in the winter.  One swipe with these and they’re gone and back to being sparkling clean.  I keep a pack of these at home and at work and I use them constantly.
  3. Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask: This saved my skin when I was sick!  My skin was so dry and flaky from wiping my eyes constantly and was super parched.  I broke this out one night, applied a generous dab of it all over my face and woke up to the softest, smoothest skin.  I’ve been using it twice a week since and I can’t see myself going through another winter without it now.
  4. Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer: My favourite face primer for dry weather.  I have combination skin but this leaves my skin looking glowy and hydrated but not oily or greasy.
  5. Vaseline Lip Therapy: I keep this on my night stand at night and use it as my overnight lip treatment.  It works wonders and leaves my lips feeling soft and smooth in the morning.
  6. Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub: My lips are naturally dry and if I want to wear anything aside from a gloss or a balm on my lips, I need to exfoliate before.  Bonus that you can lick off the excess scrub after applying it and it tastes like bubblegum!
  7. Delectable Strawberry & Cream Super Smoothing Body Polish: My skin gets ridiculously dry in the winter and if I want my moisturizer to absorb, I need to exfoliate several times a week.  This scrub smells amazing (seriously, I want to eat it) and is effective yet gentle on my sensitive skin.
  8. Fossil Sydney Zip Phone Wallet: When I’m out and about during winter, wearing a thick winter coat, boots, scarf, sweater, etc. I don’t want to be dragging my purse with me on top of all of that.  So I like having a wristlet that can hold my phone and all my cards too.  I own a similar Kate Spade version and I love how convenient it is.
  9. Kate Spade New York Diagonal Stripe Portable Charger:  I can’t make an essentials list without something from Kate Spade.  I have one of these portable chargers and they’re so handy, especially at this time of year when my phone seems to die instantly when being exposed to the cold weather.
  10. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream: This saved my hands throughout January when I was sick and washing my hands 24/7.  When my hands get dry, my eczema flares up and this keeps it at bay.  It leaves my hands feeling moisturized without feeling greasy and absorbs quickly.
  11. Bath & Body Works Hand Sanitizer: I’m religious user of hand sanitizer and B&BW’s version is my favourite.  At this time of year when germs are running rampant, I kind of want to bathe in it but I limit myself to using it after taking transit, before eating meals and after using the restroom.
  12. HUE Super Opaque Tights: Hue makes my favourite tights; despite being control top, these are super comfortable and they last many wears.
  13.  Living Proof Restore Mask Treatment: Hair masks are important to apply all year round, but especially during this time of year.  I’ve heard nothing but good things about this hair mask and I can’t wait to give this a try once my current hair mask runs out.
  14. Orly Argan Oil Cuticle Drops: This is one of my favourite cuticle oil products; I actually see a difference after using this on a regular basis, and I have pretty rough and dry cuticles.
  15. RW & Co Shimmery Open Front Cardigan: I always dress in layers in Winter and a cozy cardi is a necessity.  Love the subtle shimmer on this one, it just adds that little bit of something extra.
  16. American Eagle Socks: I have these socks and they are SO cute and comfy!  They look great paired with leggings and a plaid shirt or comfy sweater.
  17. J-crew Chateau Parka: A classic wool coat is a winter wardrobe staple: I recently purchased one very similar to this and I love how the faux fur trim around the hood fancies it up.  This J-Crew version comes in some fantastic bright colours too!

This & That Fridays – January 22

picmonkey_image-33

Finally, another week done!  I swear, January is the worst month of the year.  It’s cold, dreary and you’re broke from Christmas.  The good thing is there’s only one more week left in the month and then we’re on to February!

I had the WORST experience @ Sephora last weekend…and I’m holding a bit of a grudge.  It related to me returning the Foreo Toothbrush my husband bought me for Christmas.  When he bought it for me they had to pull a barcode off of their website because there was nothing on the box…and they used the barcode for a blue toothbrush instead of the purple one he bought me.  Fast forward to me trying to return it – there’s no barcode on the box AND the item on the receipt is a different colour than what I’m returning.  So I could understand why this looks suspicious.  However, the girl at the register made me feel like I had stolen something or was trying to scam them (I’ll spare you her exact comments).  After fighting with the sales clerk forever and receiving several suspicious looks from her, she finally agreed to return it.  Except I didn’t have the VISA used to pay for it on me.  So they wouldn’t return it and now I have to go back this weekend and likely go through this all again. I couldn’t believe how rude and accusatory the sales clerk was though – she totally ruined my day.  And it definitely made me question my loyalty to Sephora.

I wish we had Kohl’s here in Canada because I would love to shop Lauren Conrad’s new Minnie Mouse Fashion Line.  So cute and girly!

I think I might give Pioneer Woman’s Roasted Red Pepper Pasta a go this Sunday.  I’ve heard nothing but delicious reviews about it and it seems really simple!

I’m contemplating signing Maggie up for Paw Pack or a Bowzer Box – has anyone tried either?  I subscribed to a 6 month Bark Box subscription using a Groupon in the summer and it’s been kind of meh.  I’d like to try a Canadian one!

This Drake themed gift guide is hilarious and awesome.  Huge Drake fan here.  He’s my boyfriend, he just doesn’t know it yet.

I rediscovered NailPolish Canada thanks to StashMatters this week (#enabler)!  I had previously placed orders with them and was always very impressed with their service.   I had no idea they now carry cosmetics, including brands that can be difficult to find in stores here such as e.l.f., Real Techniques and The Balm.  I’m putting together a shopping list as we speak.

Wishing you a great weekend!

This & That Fridays – January 15

picmonkey_image-33

Happy Friday!  I hope you had a great week.  Mine was….long.  I was off sick last week and the week before that I was off/working from home so this was the first full week I’ve worked in a little under a month.  On top of that, I’m still not feeling great – this flu/virus/whatever it is, really likes me and doesn’t want to leave.  It’s starting to get really frustrating so I’m hoping that by next week I’m back to normal.

Have you seen OPI‘s new Hello Kitty collection?  I’m not a Hello Kitty fan myself but I will be hunting these down!  I definitely want Look at My Bow, Spoken from the Heart, and Charmmy & Sugar and Small + Cute = ❤.  Lots of pinks and surprisingly I don’t own many pink polishes.  These is the perfect Valentine’s Day collection!

Did you heard about the EOS lip balm controversy?  Someone filed a class action lawsuit against the company claiming their lip balms caused such bad irritation around her lips that she required medical attention.  Normally I’d roll my eyes when I see something like this because it just comes across as a cash grab.  But I’ve actually had a similar (albeit lesser) reaction to their lip balms.  However I just stopped using them and it went away….not sure why this wasn’t an option here.  And if I were to sue a company every time I had an allergic reaction to one of their products – let’s just say I’d be pretty rich.  Or in debt up to my ears in legal fees.

I’ve recently discovered my new favourite design tool for my blog – Canva!  I’m using it to design a new header, because I used PicMonkey to design my current one and it’s always been blurry, no matter if I size it to the proper specifications or not.  There’s so much you can do with Canva that is completely free – and you can pay for the extras as you go (if you want them).  I still really like PicMonkey for photo editing but I’m excited to see what I can do with Canva!

Who was your best dressed at the Golden Globes?  I’ll be honest, I rarely watch the actual award shows and lately, not even the Red Carpet Shows (I find the questions so stupid, pointless and awkward) so I keep an eye on sites like People and US to see what everyone is wearing.  I think my favourite overall was Amy Adams.

I made the Fox & She’s Get Better Chicken Noodle Soup recipe last weekend and it was really good.  I made a few modifications: I added 3 cloves of garlic, omitted the onion (I thought I had one in the house and I didn’t) and topped it with freshly shaved Parmesan Reggiano.  Oh I and I just used up a rotisserie chicken that we had for dinner the night before (which worked really well!).  I’m kind of soup-ed out for the time being, but next up I’d like to try making an Italian Wedding Soup.

Alright well after a wild and crazy Friday night, I’m headed to bed early and I couldn’t be more excited about it.  Have a great weekend!

Top 15 of 2015 – Non-Beauty!

Best products of 2015

Today I’m sharing my Non-Beauty Top 15 of 2015!  Unlike my beauty favourites, this one was a little harder to compile.  I tend to use my beauty products on a daily basis but some of the things on this list – like the tv show I mention below for instance, wasn’t something that came to mind automatically.  Anyway, my list is below – let me know if you enjoyed any of these in 2015 as well!:

  1. Gap Cozy Plaid Scarf (not pictured): I put one of these in my Fall favourites post, as well as my Gift Guide for her because these scarves are just the best.  I’ve had people mistake mine for cashmere because its just so soft.  I can’t stop raving about these, I wish I had purchased a few more prior to Christmas when they were on sale.
  2. Gapfit gFast Leggings: I scored these for 50% off at Gap’s Black Friday sale and I’m so impressed with them. I love that they have a thin drawstring on the inside so that you can tighten them if need be and they are the perfect rise – not too high and not too low.
  3. Splendid Cities Adult Colouring Book: When I first got this colouring book I used it all the time.  Then Christmas came and I kind of forgot about it.  Now that all the craziness is over I’m starting to use it again; I like to use it before I go to sleep as it helps me relax.
  4. DL1961 Denim:  I acquired my first pair of these jeans @ Winners last Spring and I fell in love with them immediately.  Perfect fit, super comfortable and the best thing – they don’t lose their shape (like, at all). In the Fall I got a really great deal from Macy’s on my second pair, this time in the Angel fit and I love them just as much (maybe a little bit more!).  Highly recommend these if you’re looking for premium denim that is actually worth it’s premium price tag.
  5. Lucky Brand Giorgia Lace-Up Ankle Boots: I have weirdo feet (high arches, wide at the front, narrow at the back) so it’s hard for me to find footwear that actually fits and doesn’t kill my feet.  These have worked out so well for me and I wear them with almost everything because they’re such a versatile, basic style.  Bonus – they’re on sale right now!
  6.  The Sac Cambria Crochet Large Tote:  Sometimes (okay, pretty much all the time) you can find the most amazing things at Costco – and this was one of those things.  I paid $30 for this bag last summer and it took about 5 minutes for me to fall in love with it and for it to become my go-to summer purse.  It’s super lightweight, durable and roomy.  And it’s cute!  Plus it works really well as a carry-on bag too.  These retail for double the price so if Costco gets them in again this year I’d highly recommend getting your hands on one.  Honestly though, I’d pay the full price for another one of these when mine needs replacing because I just love it so much!
  7. Express Portofino Shirt: I adore these because they’re so easy to wear.  They look great paired with dress pants or a skirt for work and are just as fab when worn with jeans.  Plus they come in almost every colour and fun print imaginable .  I own 5 of them so you could say I’m a little obsessed.
  8. Reef Flipflops: I’ve been wearing Reef flip flops for years and they are the only ones I will buy.  A little pricey but they offer way more support than the cheaper kind and they have really cute styles.  And they last forever!  I’m on my second pair of Twisted Stars but my first pair lasted me 2 years (and I’m really hard on shoes!)
  9. Monogrammed Mug (Sold out – alternative): My parents got me and D these for Christmas and we’ve grown very fond of them.  I’ve been using this a lot over the last few weeks, filing it up with tea and soup and I’m very impressed with how much it can hold.  These make for a great gift for anyone, at any time of year!
  10. The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Easily one of the best shows I’ve watched all year.  It’s light-hearted, hilarious and just so enjoyable to watch.  I’m eagerly awaiting Season 2!
  11. Ed Sheeran: I was lucky enough to see Ed in concert earlier this year and it solidified my admiration of his talent.  He had no band behind him, it was just him up on the stage, playing his guitar.  Unfortunately the venue he was performing in wasn’t the best for acoustics but he still blew me away.  If you don’t have his album X, stop what you’re doing and get it now.  You won’t regret it.
  12. Quitter: Closing the Gap between Your Day Job and Your Dream Job: My friend gifted me this book back in October and I just finished reading it over the holidays.  If you are struggling with figuring out what you want to be when you grow up AND what the path from your day job to your dream job should be, I’d highly recommend you read this.  I’ve taken so much from this book and I’m going to start applying what I learned on a daily basis in 2016.
  13. Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce Hot Chocolate: My new favourite Starbucks drink!  I can’t drink coffee or tea lattes (they make me shaky) and there’s not many teas that I actually like, so I’m really glad I discovered this.  I get mine 1/2 fat and 1/2 sweet with no whip and it’s deeeelicious!
  14. Open Table: This is one of the most-used apps on my phone!  It’s an online restaurant reservation service that allots you points for reservations you make and honour, and it includes reviews from diners as well.  I use this regularly at home, as well as when we travel.  I used it so much last year that I’m close to receiving a $130 Dining Cheque!  Pretty good deal for just making some reservations I would have made anyway.
  15. PicMonkey: I discovered this photo editing tool a few months into my blog and I’ve been using it ever since.  It’s also great for making photo collages and the best part is, it’s FREE!

Thanks for reading!

Gift Guide for Her

Gift Guide for Her 2016

I couldn’t do a Gift Guide for Him and not do a Gift Guide for her.  Most of these are things I have previously received as gifts or similar to things I have purchased for myself – and love.  And if I don’t have them, I know I’d enjoy them.  And I think others would enjoy them too!

  1. Gap Cozy Plaid Scarf ($34.95 CAD) – I purchased one of these a month ago and I’m in LOVE with it.  It’s so soft and the perfect size – large enough to use as a shawl but not too big that it’s bulky when used as a scarf.  The colour above was in stock yesterday and is now sold out so if you want one of these, get yourself to GAP asap!
  2. Victoria’s Secret Fireside Long Jane Pajamas ($54.50 CAD): Victoria’s Secret always has the cutest, coziest pj’s!  Love the colourful print on these.
  3. Project Candy Box – 3 Month Subscription ($70.50 CAD): For the sweet tooth on your list!  A box full of candy on your doorstep each month.  Sign me up!  Bonus that this is a Canadian company and charges in Canadian funds!
  4. Tiffany Notes Alphabet Disc Charm Pendant and Chain ($165 CAD): You can never go wrong with anything from Tiffany’s.  But who wouldn’t love this monogrammed pendant?  Simple yet elegant.
  5. Saje AromaOm Ultrasonic Nebulizer ($89.95 CAD): I received one of these a few years ago at Christmas and it’s one of the best gifts I’ve ever received.  In addition to the numerous benefits of aromatherapy, this purifies, humidifies, and reduces dust and other allergens in the air.
  6. Ugg Classic Wired Ear Muff ($90 CAD): I am not a touque wearer and sometimes a hood is too warm, which is why I love these Ugg Wired Ear Muffs.  They don’t mess up my hair, and they keep my ears and head toasty warm.  Plus you can connect them to your phone or iPod and they double as ear phones.  I’m on my second pair of these as I lost my first pair (which was sad).
  7. Sephora Gift Card: No-brainer here.
  8. Fossil Jacqueline Beige Leather Watch ($197.64 CAD): I prefer dainty, feminine watches and the face on this one is gorgeous and unique.  A good option if you’re looking to splurge!
  9. Ugg Fluff Flip Flop II Slipper ($98 CAD): I’m big on UGG stuff, if you haven’t noticed.  Mainly because in their case (which isn’t always the case!), $$$ equals quality.  I’ve never not been impressed with anything I’ve purchased from Ugg.  And their slippers are the best.  I own the Ansley ones and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.  These are basically winter flip flops.
  10. Saje Relaxation Diffuser Blend ($44.95 CAD): This would pair nicely with the nebulizer above, or as a lovely gift all on its own.  You can use these in a oil warmer as well.  All of these smell great, but Spa Spirit is my favourite.  It smells like walking into your favourite spa.
  11. Color Me Calm Adult Coloring Book ($15 CAD): Adult colouring books are all the rage and are a great way to unwind and relieve stress.  I try to do a bit in mine every night just to ease in shutting my brain down before I head to bed.
  12. Set of 24 Coloured Pencils ($15 CAD): A must-have to accompany the colouring book!
  13. Britney Spears Fantasy Gift Set ($21.99 CAD): Okay this is slightly embarrassing to admit, but this is one of my favourite fragrances.  Yes I know it’s Britney Spears.  But I get so many compliments when I wear this AND it’s super cheap.  And the bottle looks so pretty on a vanity!
  14. Bath & Body Works Lavender Vanilla Luxury Bath ($16.50 USD): This is the best bubble bath ever.  It is super thick and creamy and makes the foamiest bubbles ever.  The scent is gentle and light and just so relaxing.  You can’t go wrong with gifting this.

If you haven’t finished up your shopping yet, I wish you luck and patience braving the crowds!

Happy Shopping!
